Who Killed Beano?
By Chris Kent
Coma is a company that is doing sterling work privatizing the poor
old NHS. Coma will find you a kidney ("For sale: human kidney,
one careful owner"). They'll find you a surgeon (he won't speak
English, but you'll be under anaesthetic so you won't notice). Now,
as a deadly flu-like virus marches westwards from Asia, the government
needs Coma's help
The politicians have to act fast if they are to protect their populations,
and line their pockets by making deals with the pharmaceuticals
multinational that has developed a vaccine against the bug.
The British government leaps into action via the shady "Ministry
of Development".
Unfortunately for Britain and the world, the man at the Ministry
makes a fatal error - he gives the key role in the anti-virus campaign
to Coma's Bernie Bridges, the, er, hero of this comedy thriller.
Coincidentally (or maybe not), the call from the government comes
at exactly the same time as Bernie's colleagues and rivals start
to turn up dead.
Bernie turns for support (and, he hopes, sex) to Claudine, a French
supermodel clad in the shortest leather miniskirt known to man.
But he obviously didn't listen during biology lessons at school.
What was that about the black widow spider?
Chris
Kent gets inside her hero's head and shines an unforgiving light
into its murkiest, dirtiest corners.
